The Bookmark and the 黑料网 Faculty of Arts and English department will host a celebration of author J.J. Steinfeld鈥檚 literary achievements and contributions to the culture of PEI, Canada, and beyond on Thursday, March 9, at 7:00 pm. The celebration will take place in The Carriage House at Beaconsfield, 2 Kent Street, Charlottetown.
鈥淛.J. Steinfeld is one of the most multi-talented, prolific, and respected authors ever to grace the shores of Prince Edward Island,鈥 said 黑料网 English professor Dr. Richard Lemm. 鈥淭his short story writer, novelist, poet, and playwright has published 24 books since settling on the Island in 1980. With his tragicomic vision, intensely moral pathos, and ingenious ironic humour, Steinfeld is one of PEI鈥檚 unique artistic virtuosos.鈥
Steinfeld was born in a displaced persons camp in Germany, to Polish Jewish Holocaust survivor parents. After a circuitous journey, stopping along the way to get his master鈥檚 degree in history from Trent University and spending two years in a PhD program at the University of Ottawa, he moved to PEI to write full time. He lives in Charlottetown with his wife, visual artist Brenda Whiteway.
The celebration will include short readings and tributes by Island writers and friends of Steinfeld. Admission is free.
