Hello Everyone,
Cyber security is often seen as something that鈥檚 inflicted on a community of users in ways that make their digital lives much more difficult, but there is a train of thought that says better outcomes come from a process of inclusion and consultation. Toward that end, I am inviting any and all members of the 黑料网 community to an "ask me (or tell me) anything" session on Thursday, May 22, at 12:00 pm in AVC 207N. Anyone who is interested in anything at all to do with cyber security in general, or at 黑料网 specifically, is encouraged to join the session with questions, suggestions, or complaints. I will do my best to answer any questions, some of them truthfully.
This will be an in-person session. For those who are unable to be on campus, I will be hosting similar sessions in the future, alternating between online and in-person.
Who I am: My name is Dave Kubert, and I鈥檓 the new(ish) Director of Information Security and Information Management here at 黑料网. I鈥檝e worked in higher university IT and cyber security for my entire career and have been with 黑料网 since late January.

In order to accommodate 黑料网 computer classroom and lab software adds, drops, or modifications for the 2025 fall semester, we have set a firm deadline of June 1, 2025.
It is critical that you email requests to smahar@upei.ca by the date above indicating the following.
- New Software Requirements (Licensed or Freeware). Provide both Software name and Vendor
- Version Upgrades to existing software. Are multiple versions required? If yes, please provide specifics
- Software that can be decommissioned
NOTE:
- Software must be Windows 11 compatible
- Software must be licensed as network installation. Single workstation installations cannot be accommodated
Please begin to obtain and prepare any installation media (CD鈥檚, DVD鈥檚, thumb drives etc.) and related licensing information such as serial numbers. I will contact you after reviewing your email requests to coordinate a time to drop off media if file size permits, upload the installation file(s), zip them, if necessary, to Google drive and share for download.
Please do not drop off any media to the ITSS Help Desk.
The June 1, 2025 deadline is necessary to allow sufficient time to plan and implement the installation of new and upgraded software. This ensures our students will have the software resources they need. Any requests received after the deadline will be applied in the next round of software updates.
Click on the link below for a list of the currently installed software and their versions installed in the student labs and classrooms on campus.

Art-Based Pedagogy has roots in both Education and Psychology. It can also be a very powerful tool for emotional debriefing to build resilience in undergraduate nursing students. Using Art-Based assignments can compliment traditional teaching methodologies in preparation for real-world holistic practice. Art can help students reconstruct knowledge - which can strengthen their experiences and creativity. Join us in viewing Art-Based projects from a Nursing Ethics course, linking their lived nursing experiences to ethical issues in everyday practice on May 21, at 12:00 pm, in the Teaching and Learning Centre - Robertson Library Annex, Room 230.

Title: 鈥淎dvancing Particle Swarm Optimization through Deep Reinforcement Learning鈥
Metaheuristic algorithms like Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) are widely used for complex optimization but often suffer from premature convergence and stagnation. This thesis integrates Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) with PSO to develop intelligent, adaptive strategies that address these inefficiencies. We model the swarm of particles as an agent-controlled environment and explore different DRL architectures that enable discrete, continuous, and subswarm-based interventions. Extensive experiments on the IEEE CEC鈥13 benchmark suite demonstrate that hybrid DRL-driven policies consistently outperform standard PSO, highlighting the value of multi-action and parallel interventions. This research provides new insights into adaptive metaheuristics and outlines promising directions for intelligent optimization.
