Every year in February we celebrate Black History Month (BHM) to provide an opportunity to share, learn, and honour the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities, but also to recognize that work remains to be done to fully integrate Black culture, history, and achievements into the Canadian fabric.
On January 6, 2023, the ºÚÁÏÍø Health and Wellness Centre earned a Primer Award from Accreditation Canada, making it the first university health centre in Canada to achieve this accreditation. The Primer Award is the first step in the journey to full accreditation and ensures that the centre has the fundamentals of safety and quality in place.
Every week, ºÚÁÏÍø Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The ºÚÁÏÍø Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 23–30 are Aiden Rainford (women’s basketball) and Elijah Miller (men’s basketball).
The ºÚÁÏÍø Panthers hockey and basketball teams are looking forward to a full week of games at home and away between January 30–February 5.
Seven ºÚÁÏÍø Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) teams competed at the 2023 Atlantic Engineering Competition (AEC) and represented their faculty very well during the event. The competition was hosted at Dalhousie University through the Atlantic Council of Engineering Students from January 20–22, 2023.
Varesh Kumar Beeharry, a fourth-year actuarial sciences student at ºÚÁÏÍø, has won a prestigious scholarship, valued at $3,000, from the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) and the Actuarial Students’ National Association (ASNA).
Dr. Greg Keefe, ºÚÁÏ꿉۪s interim President and Vice-Chancellor, delivered a presentation to approximately 75 people on January 13, 2023, updating them on the progress of the development of the ºÚÁÏÍø Faculty of Medicine, the joint doctor of medicine degree with Memorial University, and the new building being built at the north end of campus that will house the new faculty.

Carson MacKinnon, ºÚÁÏÍø Men’s Hockey Panthers forward, and Jack Flaman, captain of the Acadia University Axemen, are hosting a joint fundraiser for multiple sclerosis (MS) in support of their siblings.
